Meeting of the Minds — Engineering & Business
Last week, I had the opportunity to meet with the student leadership teams of英航bson’s eTowerandOlin’s Foundry, along with theBlank Center’s Cindy Klein-MarmerandOlin’s Suzanne Alcott. Wow, what a group! What entrepreneurial energy! (And, if you haven’t checked out Olin’s campus center — its a great space with scrumptious food offerings and really cool engineers and entrepreneurs to hang out with).
While we’ve been emailing all summer, it was great to finally meet Jonah Kaner and Khaleel Gonzalez, Co-Presidents of eTower, and Christina Gee, eTower’s Community Manager, face to face. Located in Van Winkle, etower was prepping for their opening general membership meeting that evening, and brimming with ideas about what the eTower had in store for this semester, including some initiatives in the works with Stanford and Ycombinator. Likewise, Olin’s Lianai Lye, Dakota Nelson, and Evan Simpson, the Foundry’s Board, were excited to share news about their weekly meetings, open to all entrepreneurs, at 6pm every Friday in the dining hall mezzanine in Olin’s Campus Center, as well as theirStart-Up Career Fair on October 15th, which is open to all Babson students.
Brian Hickey,英航bson’s Greenhorn Connector, shared information about Greenhorn’s StartUp Dinners, sponsored in part by Olin and Babson, to match two students from Babson, Olin, MIT, Northeastern, BU, and Brandeis with StartUp founders. With a mutual passion for entrepreneurship, it was hard to keep up with all the ideas, endeavors, events, and information that flowed between these two student groups. The Foundry aims to encourage entrepreneurship on campus through running events such as Tech Talks and the Olin Startup Fair, giving students money to explore business ideas, and helping students get to entrepreneurial events in Boston. Similarly, eTower’s mission is to bring together entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial leaders of all kinds to foster the passion of entrepreneurship and provide support not only among our members but to all of Babson Campus.
